Our baby measures about 4 inches from crown to rump and weighs about 1.75 ounces. Our baby’s bones still consist of soft cartilage but they are now beginning to harden and the development of the bones and the marrow continues. Her ears are developing into a more recognizable shape and any hair already on the head and brows will become thicker. Our baby may already be sucking her thumb. Her skin is thin and translucent and all her blood vessels can be seen through it. Her hair continues to grow on her head and her eyebrows. If her hair will be dark, the follicles will start to generate pigment to color her hair. Our baby is moving more now and is becoming increasingly flexible. She can bend her arms at the elbows and wrists and she can make tiny fists with her hands.
I’m feeling the baby move almost every day now, which is beyond amazing. The old fashioned term for when you first feel the baby is called the quickening–and I think I know why. Every time I feel it, my heart quickens and I smile and think, “There is a human growing inside of me!” I love being an expectant mother.
We’ve heard the heartbeat twice to date. I asked Kevin after my last appointment if he cried. He replied, “No.”
“Not even a little bit?”
“No, ” said my ever practical, ever rational, ever loving man, “I would have cried if we didn’t hear the heartbeat!”
Only five more weeks until we get to find out if the baby is a boy or a girl! Hopefully! We broke down and found out after the third ultrasound with Aviana, but Brielle wouldn’t let us take a peek. So having had both a “Know” and a “Surprise”, I would rather know.
I’m feeling great these days, overall. Probably still a little more emotional than normal. I find myself working myself into a tizzy as I tear through the house picking up stuff and discover Brielle is right behind me getting out more stuff. Not exactly the easy goin’ mama I envision myself to be.
I look really tired in the above picture because I stayed up late scrapping with some friends last night. It was really nice to get out of the house and to get a few layouts done. They were none too creative, but they are done. I haven’t had pictures developed since before Aviana’s birthday. Which is in July. And you know how many pictures I take.
I may retake the 15 week picture when I can spruce up a bit. It is for posterity after all. On the other hand, in the words of my ever wise husband: It’s not all about how you look!
It’s not?
No way, sister, it’s more how you FEEL! As long as you are feeling good, who cares if you are living in pajama bottoms and your husband’s sweatshirts? (Or is that just me?) 😉
So excited for you! I hope that everything is wonderful and goes very smoothly for you! Can’t wait to hear the gender!
You look great 🙂
When is your actual due date?
Congratulations! I guess I had not read far enough in your blog to see this… How exciting! You are so blessed – and you look great – like you are enjoying the journey!
It’s not?! I guess it was for me 🙂 If I didn’t look good-ish then I didn’t feel good. I’m vain like that 🙂
You look awesome! What a beautiful baby bump you have. I am SO excited to find out what you are having!
