April Fools!

I had fun today–for the most part!

First off, I had Aviana call all her relatives to play an April Fool’s joke. We had read in the Berenstain Bears Almanac that your friends might tell you, “There’s a hole in your pants, Your shoes are not tied, There’s a bug on your nose, There’s a big purple monster outside!” The idea of playing this joke really struck a chord with her and she had a grand time being a toddler pranskster and getting a reaction from her grown-ups. Gigi told her she was a little trickster, and Aviana said, “No, I’m not, I’m a person!”

We prepared to have friends over for an April Fools dinner I had read in my Quick Cooking magazine–I made Meatloaf Layer Cake, April Fool’s Berry Sodas and Tricky Taco Cups. The older kids especially really enjoyed the tricky dinner.

Aviana was quite the little showoff and got into my Stampin’ Up glitter and decorated herself and the other two year old, some Easter eggs and pretty much, the whole upstairs. Later, she was caught squeezing my very special (and pricy!) Burt’s Bees Foot Creme into an Easter egg. The last straw was when she was teaching her little friends how to make popcorn in the microwave upstairs, and didn’t take the plastic off the package!

I did have a good time with my friends, and enjoyed the comraderie as usual, despite the fact that I was put out with Kevin the whole time. We just have such different temperments! I love to be out and among people on a regular basis, I love to entertain and have people over, I enjoy kids to the Nth degree and want to play games and be immersed with them (especially when most of them are going home at the end of the party) and he…not so much. So whenever I want to have people over, I talk to him about it well in advance, and make sure he’s on board with the whole idea ect. ect. and then the day of the event, he’s usually surly and unfun. It’s so hard to figure out because he always has a good time, and enjoys himself when it’s all said and done. He says it’s worth it. But there is just something that goes on that makes it so NOT fun to get ready for it.

This time I told him I just wouldn’t have anyone over ever again unless it was his idea. He just doesn’t get my need to reach out to people and I just don’t get his need to not. It puts a damper on it for both of us.

Why oh why do opposites attact?

disclaimer: Kevin knows I wrote this and ok’d it
